Chris Schalk

About Me

Hello to all you students and parents! My name is Chris Schalk, and I’m the new Science and Physics teacher here at Chinook. This is my first year at Chinook, but my 12th year of teaching since I graduated from the U of L back in 2007. I’ve spent nearly all those years teaching in Fort Macleod at FP Walshe, where I covered pretty much all the Sr. High Math and Science courses. I was blessed with a wonderful opportunity to join the team at Chinook this year, and I’m excited for the vision and programming we offer here. This is an amazing place to come to school, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the culture of growth and making this an exciting place to learn!

A bit about me… I’m the proud father of three little girls who I adore along with my wife, Melissa. We’ve been Lethbridge residents ever since our days in University, and we love to call this place our home. We attend and are regularly involved in Park Meadows Baptist, which is our home church. Like many parents, most of my free time these days revolves my kids’ activities. However, when I can, I love to play games, from disc golf to foosball to pool. That and following my New England Patriots while the dynasty still lives :D

My passion in the classroom is helping students learn and grow. I love doing hands on activities and labs, so I hope you like racing Hot Wheels, shooting dart guns and blowing things up (safely) in the name of science! I’m a big believer in growth mindset and learning how to fail forward. I aim to help students build resiliency skills using science as a medium for learning how our world works. I hope to provide a safe classroom where students can make mistakes, but enjoy the process of learning, because it’s the journey that matters, not the outcome.

When you need to get a hold of me, feel free to send me an email anytime. Otherwise I’m found in Room 218 to talk to in person. And if you get a chance, make sure to check out my website: (password: chinook). You’ll find all sorts of important stuff on there like a schedule, notes and even class videos.

I’m excited for this upcoming year and I look forward to working with you all!
