DeAndra Sullivan
English
DeAndra teaches English Language Arts at Chinook. DeAndra is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging for all students and cultivating a classroom of curiosity, deep conversation, and critical thinking. You might hear DeAndra before you see her in the building (clickity clacking down the hallway or singing out to someone…). She is always up for trying something new and having some fun along the way! DeAndra regularly participates in marking Diploma Exams and Provincial Achievement Tests in Edmonton and is an active member of our Local ATA #41.
DeAndra also has almost two decades of experience teaching dance and ballet to students of all ages, as well as adults, beyond her public school teaching experiences. Her experiences as a dancer and an artist influence her teaching and she is a proud supporter of the Fine Arts.
DeAndra is always up for a spontaneous dance party, loves a good plate of nachos, and has now realized she no longer knows the slang of today’s teens. Ouch.
DeAndra's wildest adventures include flying to London, England for the weekend to see the Spice Girls at Wembley Stadium. Last summer DeAndra travelled to the BOSAWAS Rainforest in Nicaragua, one of the most remote areas of the world, with the ATA and Change for Children to collaborate with teachers in Nicaragua and advocate for all students to have equitable access to Public Education. Because of this experience, DeAndra Sullivan is a changed educator and person for the better.
DeAndra hopes to one day hike to Machu Picchu, catch another Tyee (a salmon over 30 lbs) off Vancouver Island with her family, and successfully watch Canadian Tire Christmas commercials on tv without crying.
